Your right to request information

The Freedom of Information Act 2011 gives every person a legally enforceable right to request records held by public institutions, subject to the exemptions and procedures in the Act. A requester does not have to be a Nigerian citizen or explain why the information is wanted.

How to make a request

Describe the record clearly enough for us to identify it. Include your name, a reliable email address or postal address, the preferred format, and any accessibility support you need. Send the request to info@subeb.kg.gov.ng with the subject FOI Request, submit it through the contact page, or deliver it to SUBEB Headquarters, Ibrahim Taiwo Road, P.M.B. 1113, Lokoja, Kogi State.

What happens next

  1. We acknowledge and register the request.
  2. The responsible unit searches for the record and considers applicable exemptions.
  3. Under section 4 of the Act, access or a written refusal should ordinarily be communicated within seven days, subject to lawful extensions or transfer.
  4. If access is refused, the notice should state the reason and the relevant provision relied upon.

Fees and formats

No application fee is charged merely for making a request. Reasonable reproduction or delivery costs may apply where permitted. Records may be supplied electronically, inspected, or provided in another available format.

Exemptions and protection of personal information

Some records may be withheld or redacted where disclosure would conflict with protections in the Act, including personal privacy, law-enforcement, privileged, confidential, security or other protected interests. Exempt material does not automatically prevent disclosure of the remaining separable record.

Proactive disclosure

Kogi SUBEB publishes organisational information, projects, procurement records, circulars, service information and public documents through this website where publication is lawful and appropriate.
